According to the manual, I'm supposed to use C2 transmission oil in the power shift trans on a 1966 545 loader. I have no idea what oil is in it right now, looks like ATF. I got 10 gallons (takes 8.5) cost over $19 per gallon! C3 or I think, 121 is about $9. Anyone know if I can run the cheaper stuff or should I put the C2 in and try not to think about it? BTW, I've owned the machine for 6 years and never changed the trans oil. The dip stick is missing so I guess I need to drain the oil and clean the screens then put 8.5 gal in and make a new dipstick that show's full.

Thanks for the info Dnoym. I didn't see the the check plugs but will look again. The fill spout has several bends in it and I wondered how well a dip stick would work. What oil do you use in it? Should I use the C2? Thanks, John

John where did you get that you should use the C2? i have a 1967 545D with a 301 and 2 speed power shift i have a 545D operator manual and in the manual it say lubricate these with SAE 10w oil meeting ATF type c-1 so i think that SAE 10W oil or ATF type C-1 is what they went with in 1967 so i don`t think it need anything special i don`t know if tractor hydraulic would work (i can`t see why not) but the only thing that i did with mine was to take out about 5 gal of oil because they could not find the dip stick to check oil set park brake take the top plug out with dranpan if no oil add oil replace plug and start engine and run at 1000 to 1500 rpm for 1 min. to charge system then take out the bottom plug and add oil as required stop engine this is what mine look like uploads/1493/GetAttachment7.jpg - uploads/1493/GetAttachment7.jpg do you have a manual HTH if you need more info let me know B:-) Dnoym
