I think I've read before that the pulse is to fast. You can get an electric fence tester at tractor supply or the like. They're pretty cheap and won't tell you much but they'll flash. It'll have a lead that you stick in the ground and a hook you hang over the wire

I have one made for electric fence that has a series of lights, the more lights on the more power in the fence. It could be 20+ years old, and I want to say $30 to $40 buck back then. I thought It was kind of expensive for what it was back then. I don't use electric fence to often, but want it as hot as I can get it. A good ground is more important as the dirt can be really dry. So I want to know I have the ground deep enough.

If you’re looking for something cheap, don’t bother reading this post! Haha. Just to say it, I bought a Gallagher Fault Finder electric fence tester a couple years ago and man is it handy.
