I have an earlier series 3 XT (3 section pump). I bought the tractor about 5 years ago and it had been setting in a shed untouched for close to 15 years before I bought it. Anyways the steering gets harder to steer as the tractor warms up,its still steers easy but you can feel in the steering wheel more resistance, also the hyd PTO has an issue where it will not engage immediately when the lever is pulled MOST OF THE TIME, sometimes it will. Usually the first time its engaged it works fine, shut it off (the PTO) and go to engage again and there's a pause. Depressing the main clutch and engaging the PTO then releasing the clutch it usually engages right away. What should I look for? Hydraulics are a little slow but not bad by any means.

I think if it was me id check the suction screen where it gets oil from under the power director housing. You would be eliminating the possibility of low oil flow causing problems

The power steering, Power Director clutch and (optional) hydraulic PTO clutch are all the same circuit. Without pressure checking things, I would start by removing the hex plug on the very top/rear of the hydraulic pump. That takes a 7/8" wrench. Might have to remove the engine oil fill spout. Pull out the spring and fish up and out the priority spool and polish it and make it clean and free to slide up/down. If that doesn't improve things, it is time for testing and probably a hyd pump overhaul, which I can do.
