I would like to reduce the noise on my 190xt and get rid of straight pipe. Seems there are two different mufflers available priced around $140 for the longer one and $90 for the shorter one sold by various parts companies. Both appear to have 3 inch mounting diameter. | AC22 is the part number for the longer one, you need biger hole in the hood because it sits down lower. Fits a 200 or 7000 also 5.5 diameter. AC16 is shorter and the narrow bottom extends above the hood if you have the small hole 5in. diameter. Those were the part numbers from the Shoup catalog. |

Thanks for the clarification. I measured the hole in my hood and it is 4 inches so it would seem that I need the smaller muffler since it would need to set up higher due to the 5 inch round diameter of the muffler. I started cross comparing various resellers. Yesterday's tractor mentions that the longer one is for Serial Numbers greater than 19001. My serial number is 19578 but it still would not fit. It does say non-turbo model or gas so that leaves me with only one choice, I think. The real question for me now though, is changing this out for an actual muffler going to reduce the noise level significantly? I am guessing the smaller one doesn't reduce the noise as well as the larger one? Shoup is a little cheaper at $80 plus $20 shipping. All States Ag wants $87 plus $50 shipping. I am guessing they are made by the same exact company. Glad you pointed out Shoup as they seem to be cheaper than all of the rest.

| 190 XT diesels always had a straight pipe. Many had the hole in the hood opened up to accept a 200/7000 muffler to reduce noise levels. All 190's (gas or diesel) and early 190XT gassers had an underhood horizontal muffler with a straight pipe above the hood. At s/n 19001 they ditched the underhood muffler version and went with a muffler straight up thru the hood. Anything you do will quiet things down. I myself would get a muffler to a 200/7000 because I KNOW they work and fit as long as the hole in the hood is large enough. |

| The higher the exit point, the quieter it will be for your ears. So, depending on your shed doors opening height, you can always add on to the exit end of the muffler if needed. An elbow in that exit area could also be used to direct noise out ahead and to the side if overall height is a concern. |

I looked through my pictures and most of what I have has the top of the exhaust about even with the top of the cab. My seriesIII has the smaller muffler on it (Stemco if I remember correctly) and I don't notice exhaust noise when I run the baler. What I remember is I think I hear more noise from the fan than the exhaust. The other nice thing about having the exhaust and the cab about the same height is you have a clearance gauge in front of you. We have center pivot irrigation and there are times it is nice to know if you will fit underneath. Thats why i wanted the longer muffler but it doesn't work with my hood unless i add an extension to the bottom. I agree anything is better than a sraight pipe. Straight pipe on my XT diesel and yeah it’s loud, but I love the music coming out the turbo 301 especially pulling our disc mower. Charlie has a 200 muffler on his. I’d admit it is much quieter but I’ve lost my hearing to cancer treatments anyway and prefer the straight pipe. I bought the ac16 stanley muffler and installed it. I loaded a decibel meter app on my phone prior to deinstalling the chrome straight pipe. Recorded 99 decibels with phone at ear level. Deinstalled the straight pipe. Installed the ac16 muffler. Ran decibel test and it recorded 99 decibels at ear level. No difference which greatly surprised me. | ...or buy a real muffler,not a Stanley. Don't think there was a factory muffler for a 190. I put a OEM 7030 muffler on my straight piped 220. Well worth it although I had to cut oval hole in hood. Ear plugs are worthwhile. You can't improve your hearing. All you can do it make it worse. |

Just another routine item for your daily pockets (ink pen, pocket knife, earplug case, 10mm wrench, pliers,,,,whatever?) Try your farm & home type stores, Harbor Freight, Menards, Walmart, etc,, for an earplug kit that includes a carrying case. Meaning~ earplugs are only useful when readily available!!! Any/All times needed…..!! Heck, they’re wonderful for rock concerts. A guy can actually hear a concert better with earplugs. Yeah, they’re a conversation piece! Haha…. ONLY if the other person a guy is trying to converse with can still hear…. ? |

We had a customer with a short tool shed. He had just bought a new One-Ninety XT. Before it left the dealership, he had the shop boys cut off about a foot and a half of the straight pipe!

Replaced the Stanley on my D 15 with a Nelson, but I still like to wear ear muffs. Can't make it any taller as our 'farm' has lots of trees Should add it's a series 1 |

I don't really want to cut a hole in the hood for a better muffler when i dont know how much better noise reduction from another muffler is going to make. I could try an extension because my shed height is 12 feet but it wont look pretty. I use tractor for raking and teddering only so i run at low rpms and lower engine noise most of the time. According to the decibel meter, 99 decibels is considered to be in the red and bad for hearing. I am guessing a nelson muffler would have to have a reducer coupler to make it work. The bigger mufflers might be hard to see around. For now.
