The question is are you willing to chance putting a rod though the block or continuing to ruin a crankshaft? It could just be piston skirt slapping a little. Need to find the source of the knock.

No miss-fire or white exhaust smoke?? How many HOURS ?? They don't have rod bearing problems but one could still fail.  How much crankshaft end play is there ??  A failed rod bearing should be noisiest at start up and maybe quiet down a little when oil pressure hits it. A really failed rod bearing will have the crankshaft journal probably ruined. Turbo diesel engine cranks are very hard and a failed burned out bearing takes the hardness away., making the crank junk. You talk like you have the oil pan off ??
