Can anyone tell me the width of the rear wheels/axle on a Gleaner K2 combine? Looking at one that’s about 60 miles away. I’m too cheap to pay someone to haul it, I could drive it but I’ve seen online where people put the rear axle on a car dolly. Wondering if that’s an option? I’ve also seen where people make a rear hitch bar and tow it. Guessing about 4-5 hours to drive it.

Info from AC Gleaner F2-K2 OM January 1981. Good for the 78.79.80.81 models (long backs) as follows; Standard steer tires 7.50x16 Standard steer thread 78.9” Standard steer Reversed ? Optional steer tires 11L-6 Optional steer thread 83.3”
7.50-16 outside to outside 86.4” 7.50-16 inside to inside 71.4” 11L-16 outside to outside 94.3” 11L-16 inside to inside 72.3”
3 speed Transmission grd speeds with standard 18.4-26 drive tires; 1st gear, 0.93-2.76 mph 2nd gear, 2.17-6.43 mph 3rd gear, 5.29-15.70 mph 16.9-26 was optional, along with Rice 18.4-26.
You didn’t mention which model K2? There is also a 1977 K2 shortback. It is just a glorified 1976 K with newer series 2 cab & square tail housing. Instead of rounded. Thinking it’s steer configuration is similar if not the same as longback models?

Drive it if it has good tires and drive belt-no problem. Just check fluids and grease variable. Also, a K will fit on a gooseneck, easy-peasy.

K2 with a long square back. Guessing a regular model not the corn special. Thanks for all the info.

If you road it,jack up steers and see how loose and noisy they are. Don't need a breakdown on the road.

Well I ended up buying it. Not sure if I’m up to the 4-5 hour trip to drive it and the wife talked me into hiring someone to haul it. Here’s a couple pictures. Any pointers on loading and unloading the head with a skid loader and forks? It’s got a 13’ head with the floating cutter bar. Thanks for the responses.

Congratulations Travis2766. That looks like a very clean K2 & 13’ wobble drive flex header. Maybe 78’ gasser GM 250 in-line 6 ?? Manual-fold unloading auger & chopper.

1979 GM 250 in line 6 gasser, very clean and well kept. 2 owners since 1980. 13’ wobblebox flex head. Wear parts are in very good condition. He had a 3 row corn head for it, said he never used it so he scrapped it! Sure wish he hadn’t, now I’ll have to find one. I’ll post more pictures once I get it home.

I would think you could squeeze a set of forks under the throat area and pick it up from the rear.

  | The 13’ header has both a top & mid-bottom heavy framwork. Top framework is its black 1/4” steel that extends its entire length. It’s mounting hooks reside in the middle of the top framework. The Mid-Bottom framework is also a black 1/4” steel section which encompasses the area where the combine’s throat attaches and it also extends under the platform’s cross auger’s riveted thin sheet metal all the way forward to the cutter bar. This mid-bottom section is only a few inches wider than the combines throat. Combine’s throat is 29-30” wide. So mid-bottom framework section is probably 36” wide?? Somewhat narrow. The header also has a cutter bar 1/4” thick angle-iron 13’ support, 1/4” thick flex-float pads under cutter bar (13’), which are supported by four 1/4” thick leaf? springs that transition from float pads rearward to a rear hanging 1/4” angle-iron framework that only bolts to rear corners & centers of cross augers sheet metal. For balancing, the Header has more weight on its left side (drive wobble box, belt pulley drives, reel variable speed, drive shaft, bearings, etc.
So if lifting this 13’ header with pallet forks, approach it from behind, completely widen forks for stability, position forks about 20-24” left side from its center, gently slide forks under rear hanging 1/4” angle-iron & allow tips of forks to cradle under cutting bar float pads, for added security chain header hooks to fork frame/loader bucket?) and proceed slowly. Use wooden blocks to assist header height for inserting / extracting pallet forks either on ground or trailer. On the trailer, secure header from upper frame only. It’s outer triangle framework where the reel pivots makes great chain points along with the upper hooks or throat opening.
If using a tractor loader, again position it 18-24” left of center, tilt bucket forward to achieve its upper lip under header center mount hooks, ease bucket tilt toward back of mid-bottom framework, using any wooden blocks etc to contact header to loader bucket & secure with necessary chains. Take care that no parts of loader bucket pinches, puncture, dent, header hydraulic lines, sheet metal, the drive shaft, etc…
