Hello, We have a 1947 WC Allis Chalmers. I recently replaced the
sediment bowl gasket with a new cork gasket, and I am unable to get this seal
(there is gas that still wicks out from between the top of the bowl and the
gasket). I have tightened the nut under the bowl about a far as I dare as
I am concerned with cracking the bowl. Does anyone have any ideas why
this still leaks? I think that the valve packing is ok. Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Chuck and Mike |

| The most common problem that causes the leak you describe is distortion of the body of the sediment bowl due to over tightening of the nut over time. Usually best to replace the sediment bowl as it is next to impossible to straighten the body to get a flat surface where the gasket seats. I've replaced quite a few over the years due to this problem. |

If the cork material is brittle you will not get a good seal. It has to be able to compress. ------------- Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God. |

2 things, it is likely the pot metal rim/bail clip distortion, as mentioned above. A double thick cork gasket and a dime between the nut and glass bowl may work for a while, but sounds like you need the whole bowl assembly... ------------- Source: Babylon Bee. Try turning the bowl when just snug, it seems to seat the gasket and bowl and then tighten more. May need to do it more than once. ------------- 1945 C, 1949 WF and WD, 1981 185, 1982 8030, unknown D14(nonrunner) |
