Maybe someone will know. I have a MV-446 IH engine that runs well but uses gasoline in copious amounts. I also have a 7.3ltr Powerstoke in a 2000 F-250 that runs well but the truck around it is shot. I'm wondering if I can take the flywheel housing from the back of the V8 gas engine and bolt it onto the diesel?

Through a few hours of research on the internet, the dubious conclusion of "maybe" has been reached. It seems the original 6.9ltr, and 7.3ltr diesel engines were developed from this gasoline engine casting, but I've not been able to ascertain whether the block rear bolting pattern is the same. The International T444 series is basically the same and is drilled and tapped for an SAE flywheel housing to affix, or the Ford housing, but I cannot verify if the blocks destined for Ford trucks are the same. I've seen many OEM applications have slight differences to protect their interests though the basic structure is the same over many applications. As example, the casting bosses may be present, but not drilled and tapped in one application, but that operation completed for another with differing part numbers for the two differences.

Anyways, I want to repower my old air compressor from it's current gasoline Continental B-427 flathead six, to something more fuel efficient. This 7.3ltr "Power Stroke" engine weighs about the same and runs like a top. The truck is beyond repair as rusted badly.

Best way to prove it is pull two engines I suppose. Neither is a problem as I have a viable place for the 446 engine to go if cannot be used, and the 7.3ltr engine has strong possiblilty of repurpose should these two not go together easily.

The IH Medium Size trucks with a 7.3L used an adaptor Bell Housing to accommodate the Deeper Flywheel and had a slightly different bolt pattern.  Cannot swap a Ford 7.3 into a IH or a IH 7.3 into a Ford.  May be able to get some pieces to do but MV is not the same.

I don't know much about MV engines at all. Had a few SV series over the years but a different animal than the MV. Years ago I did swap a T444 into an F-350 truck with a blown 7.3ltr and juiced it up into a smooth and powerful engine. I unbolted the original SAE 2 bell and flex plate from the T444, and readily replaced both with the Ford originals that mated to the E4OD trans in the truck. Nothing was different other than the color.

I've received differing opinions from a couple of websites so probably best to go ahead and yank both engines and have a looksee for myself. The 446 I have a home for replacing a worn out 404, and the Ford engine can be adapted, or sold off easily enough. Either way, both engines need pulled for project completions.

The diesels will interchange, the Diesel to gas application not so much.

I will find out for certain next week as the MV-404 engine this MV-446 is to replace is already pulled and the flywheel/flywheel housing should be removed today and be heavily photographed for me. The Ford engine has a destination also if I cannot make use of it so will pull it this next week for evaluation. The Ford chassis is a "pile" and becoming cumbersome to have around as the weather warms so wanting to rid myself of it.

As I remember from a friend attempting this, has to do with the Dual Mass Flywheel/Flexplate affair for dimensionally then bolt sizing for attachment to Trans.  

6.9s worked, 7.3s didn't.  Unless had a 1/1 Manual from/to Medium duty(IE 444) or a Auto, Allison or 4R100.  Were all manner of side steps he ran into trying to adapt from a 446 1700 Loadstar upgrade to 7.3 Electronic.
