I just got a NOS upper generator bracket for my D15 diesel. Looks exactly like the old one except for an L shaped piece with 2 holes spot welded to it. I thought it was for mounting a voltage regulator, but the holes are too close together. Part number matches. Very possible. That shield diverts any oil that leaks from the oil bath air cleaner on the early D17s. D15 diesel is a different set up, air cleaner is on the opposite side, so I might end up taking that bracket off.

I pulled the example picture off an aumann auction listing. Just noticed that whoever “restored” that D17D applied the Power Crater engine decal on it. Must have been confused! 😵💫 FWIW, the generator bracket you pictured looks identical to the one on my D17D, and the extra bracket is definitely for the shield. |
