Will a Series IV D17 rear portion of the tractor bolt up to the earlier series? If so where is the best place to split, bell housing?
Reason I’m asking is I want to take the improved rear of a series IV and install to an earlier series narrow front. The narrow front ends are difficult to find in my area in a series IV.
Is it easier to swap out front ends, from a wide front to a narrow if they are the same across series?
Thanks

On a good day, at my age, I could remove a series 4 wide front axle and replace it with a NF pedestal is under 2 hours. That is the only way to go in your situation.

That makes sense. Reason I’m asking is I have an opportunity to purchase a non-running wide front series IV and a running narrow front earlier series.

Depending on the serial number/age of the narrow front pedestal, it may fit. Oldest versions used 1/2" bolts and later (way before a series 4) used 5/8" hardware.

Dr Allis Is the 1/2” to 5/8” bolts the only difference? Can the 1/2” holes be drilled in pedestal for the 5/8 bolts?

Might be a option to put 1/2 to 5/8 bushings in the pedistal

I just did the other way around… Put an early d17 wide front on a series 3. Drilled the holes from 1/2” to 5/8” and will have to cut the rear bracket off and weld it in a different position.
