I'm hoping to get some info on how to get past this issue,,,,
I have a Badlands ZRX 9000 winch I bought at Harbor Freight about a year ago and have only used it twice and worked great both times.
I recently had a use for it and I'm thinking the neighborhood dog snuck into my garage and chewed up the wire on the controller,,,then carried off all the pieces to remove the evidence,,,,,,WinkWink
Actually,,,I just flat do not where I might of stashed the frigging thing where even I could not find it to use it,,,,!!  I'm thinkin "The younger I get,,,,The more I remember,,,,!!!
Having only been used twice in it's life,,,it still looks like a brand new machine as I built a hinged metal cover mostly to keep them dang neighbor hood dogs away from it,,,,,
I called HF customer service and they tell me that HF does not stock a replacement controller for this machine,,,,!!! Ain't that a beech,,,??
The female port for the controller has 5 pins and one center pin,  I'm hoping these GURUs here could come up with a suggestion to replace the original 5 pin female port with an alternate one that has a male 5 pin available on a "generic controller,",,,????

Most likely a quality (not Chinese) winch would have an available replacement controller.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

You can get a wireless remote on ebay for like $70.00.

HF has wireless remotes available so that might be your best option.

I have one of the wireless remotes (like the one  Hubert (Ga)engine7 posted a link for above). I love it.

My gooseneck trailer is 33' long (28' plus 5' beavertail). I can sit on a tractor and control the winch while steering the tractor.

Well,,I ain't got nowhere with my missing winch controller,,,SO,,,im gonna have to place blame on the shifty lo0oking fellar down the street,,,,he sure looks like he would be the type of person that would carry off winch controllers just to agitate honest and law abiding folks,,,,,LOL
I finally got a number for HarborFreightcustomerservice.com and even tho my winch is only a couple of years old,,HF does NOT have replacement controllers for this 2 year old model!!  My winch has 5 pins in the connector and the current HF winch controller has 3 pins.
I did not see any wireless controllers on Ebay that worked with the 5 pin port,,,,???

Mine are 5 pin. I still have the original controller for my 6,000 lb winch which is 14 years old. The one HF has is 5 pin also and can be used wired or wireless.
Just an unrelated side note…..One problem I have had with a couple of the smaller winches is corrosion in the wiring from the control box to the motor. I would have 12 volts showing at the motor but the wires would not let enough amps go through.

I fixed the neighbors 12k Badlands winch last year that had a terrible corrosion issue on the main supply line. I tore into the little black control box and found it wasn't getting power. The wiring in there was pretty simple. If you can't get a replacement any 2 button control should be easy to wire in I would say. Not your first choice I understand, but to be back up and running it may be an option.

The neighbor lets me borrow his trailer to haul treasures home, he keeps the power cable and remote in a small tote that is easy to keep track of, and also not easy for the local K9's to drag away.

Without seeing the winch and stuff, I can't do much more than guess, Joe, but here's my guess...

Your winch PROBABLY had a permanent magnet DC motor, with TWO big heavy terminals.

The control for these terminals is simple... put + on one side, and - on the other, the winch motor runs one direction.  Reverse the polarity, and it runs the opposite direction.

The control handle you're missing has two buttons- one for IN, the other for OUT.  It's two buttons, with power going to EACH button, but the output of one wire signalling IN, and the other signalling OUT.  They go to a 5 pin connector which has only 3 pins used.

The actual power control is done through TWO solenoids- an IN, and OUT.  Wire from controller IN button powers up the solenoid that connects power in one direction.  Wire from the OUT button powers up the solenoid that connects power going in the OUT direction.

Take the covers off the electricals, and post pictures... I'll look at it from there and tell you 1) if I'm wrong and 2) What is What.

A replacement control pendant is $9 on Amazon.  A five foot piece of 3 conductor extension cord will do the rest.
