Started with a sensitive ankle early last week, did not remember over articulating or stressing, just woke up achy with it.. Tues it flared UGLY, moved around some settling at Big Toe. Tried a NSAID, got me thru Wed/Thur but came right back responding like sprained ankle so have and have instructions installed KTTape(Kinesiology) that a PT tech set me on. Worked until this morning so went to local clinic. Tuna salad three time for lunches and one dinner, smoked Ham three more with Beef Roast at least twice for dinner and stuffed peppers last night, burger and sausage for meat. Sarah asked of my diet, alcohol intake then arthritis levels. Looked me square in the eyes(she has Dreamy Eyes) told me suffering Gout attack. Great, just what I do not need.

It’s all about water intake over a few days. Gout is calcium deposits buildup in the joint. You probably went a few days without drinking enough water. A week’s worth of water to the point you wear out the zipper in your pants and be good as new

Thanks!
Sarah was a little more blunt! Lose 40-50lbs, cut out the heavy meat diet or cut it down, also EET MO CHIKN!! Drink Gallons of water and use NSAIDS prolifically to which let her know what my metabolism does to pain aids. She laughed telling me I am so screwed. Great Clinic at Cape Mercy, glad not going to be staying long.

They say red meat but I never cut back on it. It’s really just a flushing thing. As long as there is enough moisture to carry away the calcium diet doesn’t matter as much

Its not calcium, its uric acid. And it comes basically from every food that tastes good: alcohol, red meat, but chicken too, sardines plus oatmeal and cauliflower. Hydrate hydrate hydrate but being mature is the biggest risk factor

Many years ago at the DocInTheBox I was sent to for my annual DOT physical the Dr. ask how often I ate red meat. My reply was at least twice a day, often 3 times a day. Then she berated me that I needed to start eating more fish and many other inedible foods. I looked her straight in the eye (after guessing she was in the 300 pound range or better) and told her that what I have been doing for myself seems to be working better for me than whatever she has been doing for herself and I didn't think she had cause to school me on my dietary choices. She couldn't stamp my medical card fast enough. I still weigh about 130 some maybe 30 years later. My waist isn't a big around as one of her thighs would have been. Whatever works for you, go with it.

I remember a bout I had with that dang Gout some years ago when I was in the hog pen, feeding the hogs and I had this gosh awful pain hit me in the right foot and I fell to my knees,,,thinking I had been shot,,,,scared me to think I was on the groundInside a hog pen with two 300# hogs staring at me and wondering what THEY were going to do with me if I stayed on the ground much longer,,, I finally am able to get up and stagger back to house and get wife to take me to Dr's office to address this Excruciating pain on my big toe. After blood work, he tells me ,,"Your Uric Acid count is way up so,,,You got GOUT, and have to cut way back on red meat and like ole Dave,,,"Eat More Chicken". I do remember him telling me to drink lots more water,,tho. I followed his advise and have not had any more Gout flare-ups in many years,,,

FWIW, I have struggled with gout for 40 years. I have had multiple dr's advise me, some contradicting the others. red meat/not read meat, too much water, not enough water, cherry/cherry juice does not work, etc Bottom line, cutting red meat didn't help, cherry juice tasted good, but did nothing for the gout. drinking more water didn't help. drinking lots of water bloated me and caused me to pee more often, but didn't help with the gout. Alopurinol did the trick

Allopurinol did wonders for me. I only had trouble with the one foot, which had a bad sprain in the ankle in my teen years. I do ok with red meat most meals. More than a beer every once in a while or shell fish can cause me trouble. But now arthurites has set in bad in that ankle. So harder to tell which is causing what. Getting old is not fun.

I heard a doctor say, 'If it tastes good...spit it out'.
My reply was.....Chicken is fowl, fish swim in their own toilet...If it doesn't go MOOO, Oink or Baaa....It isn't worth eating.
