I have the shift lever out, looking in I can easily see things are misaligned,Can not get any movement pushing things around in there. Tried it with a real wheel jacked up and rocking the wheel while trying to realign the forks, no luck. So, I am going in to remove the shift tower. A video I watched on this shows removal of the steering post, levers and all attached to it.

My Question is this necessary? can I just remove the bolts holding the steering post, and shift to the side to clear? Probably support it all from above?

A long flat blade tip screwdriver is what you need to pop things back into neutral. You can only move ONE shift pocket/lug at a time.

I can get no movement at all trying that way. Going out now to give it another try.

Smack your screwdriver handle forwards or backwards with the tip engaged in ONE slot inside.
