I was impressed. A work bench and wearing socks and shoes!

I would've trusted the work more if he was working barefoot on a dirt floor and using only a 16Lb sledge, rusty hacksaw/dull file and some old batteries as a welder TBH. The bench and footwear suggest he's not all that, and is trying to make an impression online...

In all seriousness though, some of these repairs they manage to pull off are highly impressive.

Pretty rough for sure, but they keep our old stuff running and making a living - with the US having all the pollution control etc, on our new stuff- kinda makes you wonder,,

I was on board until he fired up the cutting torch and then welded it with no apparent effort to keep the crank journal aligned with the piston pin. Also the cutting/welding heat would distort the crank journal enough to require a final cut to make it round.

The overall repair is probably strong enough though.

Makes me think I've been wasting all my $$$$ for decades having conn rods reconditioned for reuse at OH time!!! I get being in parts of the world that do what they have to for survival, but the way that rod was broken open in more than one place, it almost looks to me like it was split open intentionally to make a video ????  There's no sign of a bearing burn out. There's no sign of heat from a spun bearing ??  Looks like a set up deal to me and NO, I wouldn't even waste my time installing it for fear of when it breaks (and it will) punching a hole in the block and ruining the crankshaft.

Had a lot of the same thoughts as the Doc, didn't want to type up a book this morning. Metalurgy would be my big concern.

I dunno, I distinctly recall seeing MacGyver weld up a connecting rod somewhere in Darkest Peru or somesuch using a coin for an electrode and a 12 Volt battery; if Mac done it it's gotta be true, right? LOL
