Low/No Oil Pressure on Allis-Chalmers 670i (N5 Gleaner)

Hey everyone,

I’m working on an N5 Gleaner with an Allis-Chalmers 670i engine and having trouble with oil pressure. The engine was sitting for a while before I attempted to start it. When cranking, the oil pressure gauge barely moves, and when running, both the gauge and the oil pressure warning light indicate no pressure.

So far, I’ve:

  • Confirmed oil is flowing from the filters, meaning the pump is at least moving some oil.

  • Cranked the engine extensively, but it still won’t build proper pressure.

The pressure gauge behaves erratic at times. When I tap it, it drops below 0 and the backlight goes out.

I’ve ordered a mechanical oil pressure tester to verify, but in the meantime, I’m wondering if anyone has seen a similar issue with these engines. Could it be a stuck relief valve, clogged pickup tube, or an issue with the oil cooler? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

P.S. I've never used a form before so I hope I've posted this in the right place.

If it was driven to the spot it is now sitting, and then shut off, it has to have had oil pressure at that time, right ?  Get a mechanical gauge and verify that it does indeed have oil pressure. You have an electrical problem.

Yes, that is correct, it had oil pressure when it was originally parked. I'll definitely check it with mechanical gauge.
thanks
