Have a 1960 d17, it started leaking ps oil from underneath the radiator on top of tank. Between the front mount pump and the add on loader we can't see where from, any ideas.

If it happened all at once so to speak, I'd say it is leaking on the right side behind the grille shell. There are four tapered head allen bolts that sometimes loosen up with age.

Not leaking there. Had it parked downhill today and could watch it run across to top of oil tank on the left side looking at the front

Best way to see it is to remove the shroud, maybe even the radiator if you still can’t see it. The fitting that the sump line attaches to is aluminum it may be cracked and leaking. NLA so I had a hydraulic shop make me a new fitting and hose connection. Works great.

A year and a half later and the new fitting still works great.

You did a great job on that 17!

Thanks Mike. Almost a year worth of work to it and a lot of new parts. I do enjoy that tractor. I would be surprised if his leak isn’t with the original fitting.

That really is a lovely job on the D17, I'd be scared to hurt the paint though if I had a machine that nice!

I like em to look nice and be reliable when I put em to work. That first scratch always hurts but I buy them, repair them, verify no more issues, and then I paint them. Labor of love but I don’t like the new tractors and their technology. I can fix old school, not this high tech stuff. I’m working on a 1959 D14 presently I purchased a few months ago, baby brother to the D17 in the above pic. Hope to have it finished before hay season starts.

Could be the shaft coming out the bottom of the steering box.  Might need to replace its bearing.  Did it on my D17 several years ago.  Also check where the steering shaft goes in to the steering box on the left side.  Those seals usually go bad after decades of use.

Mine was leaking at the steering orbiter and it was running down on the tires(narrow front). I went completely through it replacing all seals. He says it running fluid on top of the front support under the radiator, seams like that would be either a cracked suction fitting, the line, or a crack in the front support on top which I highly doubt. Or from the front mounted pump that drives the loader?

If it truly is getting oil on top of the front support, I'd be thinking it's coming from the oil fill breather and it's because the oil level is overfull or it's getting AIR in it making it foamy.

Nope, can see the fill, under radiator
