Subject: Loss of brakes on a 7040

Friend called said he lost his brakes on a 7040. He noted oil level is full, has hydraulics, power steering pto, basically everything except brakes. He is a state away so all I can do is ask questions. I’ve never seen this before on an a 7000/8000 series

If what he is telling you is true, there is an orifice on the inlet fitting on the brake valve. It is plugged with something. He should still have manual brakes of some kind. Verify system stand-by pressure at the JIC tee on the side of the PTO valve. Must be 300 psi MINIMUM.

Thank you, I’ll let him know. He had to check those pressures on his 7045 pto so he will be able to check the pressure there on this tractor.

Just to clarify what Doc said, the manual brake action is only at the bottom of pedal travel. Kinda like a car brake system at that point.
