Never know what to expect for weather here in North Dakota, but if you don't like it; wait five minutes and it'll change. Starting tonight, we drop to 30 below, 33 below Monday night and Tuesday night. Then overnight lows start to creep back up. But, then by next Sunday/Monday, we get up to the high forties. That's an almost 80 degree temperature swing in less then a week. At least on the bitter cold streak, the day time highs will reach zero, or close to it. But yeah, some severe temperature swings for sure.

High 20s yesterday so spent time in shed setting up new shelving. Knowing temps will be dropping all day today for a week of sub zero lows and bitter wind chills. Yay

My goodness y’all must be tough up in those parts.
Looks like we’ll get below zero one or two nights.
Not a lick of inside work lined up.
Won’t be a fun week.

Yes I am. I was born in 63. Not sure if you are remembering a cold weather event back then or something, but I remember many cold events back when I was a kid. Don't remember any particular dates, but I've seen 40 below, and that's not counting windchill. Sometimes a week or two without going above zero. Overnight lows of negative 35 to 40, daytime highs of 20 below. Ugh, brrrrr

I would think you would have had the same weather as Minnescrotum  but in 72 the temp never got above zero for 29 days straight.  We had a free stall barn and the manure from 200 cows  was freezing behind them, could not get in stalls anymore.  Had a pick in my hand every day, sweaty but you could not keep your hands warm, if you ever run a pick you know the direction the debris flew.  Had to climb silo with pick also, pure torture.

I was only ten but I remember coming in to watch the weather on the news every night thinking its got to get better. Finally it broke and the warm front roared out of the north, dont recall that happening again.

Don't remember exact year but we had very little snow.  The wind chill was -100, had the kids move downstairs to sleep, but I did get a tractor started to feed the cows.  It would have been late 1970s, know this because of the kids ages.  Also a lot of blowing dirt.

We lived on a farm in Ohio and if the township couldn't get through with the maintainer they wou call a guy that had a v blade on the front of a 5 ton Army truck and when he topped the hill it was 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile to our house he would start blowing the air horn us kidds was usullly out playing in the snow digging tunnel across the road. We always kept 1 person outside of the tunnels to listen for the air horn. In latter year I talked to him he said as soon as he seen us out waving at him he would floor it and he said he could feel our tunnels as he went over them. If the bus couldn't get to us we weren't counted as be absent from school, we always had perfect attendance.

Currently 12 degrees here in the Texas Hill Country, steady North wind at 20mph. Furnace will run almost constant. This coming weekend temps are predicted to be near 80.

Experienced quite a few mid -30  and such but only twice have I been out in -40, it takes your breath away, seems way colder then it should, just a few degrees really cuts like a knife.

Last couple nights have only been mere low -20's , I love global warming!!Wink

Been timing the furnace cycles this morning.
Outside temp 14 degrees
Straight line North winds at 20 mph(constant)
Thermostat set at 68 F
Furnace kicks on, and runs a steady 23-24 minutes
Cycle off is just short of 4 minutes

Cold in western Iowa also. Several days in last 2 weeks of high temps near zero and below.
Local TV had picture of the FROZEN Missouri River @ Sioux City, IA today 2/19/2025, the 3rd time according to records. Frozen in 1930, 1984 and 2/19/2025.
But on Monday it's to get near 50*F and 40-50 highs most of next week. Warnings for property near Missouri & other nearby rivers to watch for ice jams as ice breaks up next week as it may cause lowland flooding.

I'm really, really hoping it DOES warm up as 'they' say it will, long enough to melt the foot of snow and ice off the low pitched back roof.
I've already  used Kubota to remove 2-3 feet of snow from around the house, hoping the warm rain we're supposed to get will go where I want it to.....

Yesterday was the first day I put on the 'thin' leather gloves, at 43 degrees. Other wise it was chopper mitts with gloves inside or long cuff fleece lined mitts with heavy chore gloves inside.
Gees, the older I get the colder the digits get.
Today suppose to hit 48 for a high, right now it is 41 degrees. Don't see anything as high as for the next 7 days.

We hit 55 degrees yesterday. Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, we had 40 below. I believe that that is about the biggest temperature swing I've ever seen in my life in that short of a time frame.
In the 10 day forecast, there isn't a cold temperature. Maybe spring is here.

He jumps into the seat and climbs up on the back of the recliner. Usually when I go to sit down he jumps down, but that day he stayed laying there.
He's kinda like Snoopy, but instead of sitting on a doghouse, he sits on the back of our recliners. He will even take a nap up there.

Our old Dachsy would do that!!  Cute Dog.

I am off work for a day or three!,  with Surface frost out the roads around here turned to sponge and break out horribly with truck traffic.  Even the Quarry pathways are like that over solid rock floor.  Is around a three to four inch layer of Mud on all the roads here where below that is hard froze and will take a few rainy days to clear that up.

Hauled ten loads of Creek Rock/Sand harvest yesterday, truck was a rolling mess Outside the bed.
