My 7020 gas passer swap is great but as the experts here suggested it can be better with a tractor governor.
Can anyone give me an idea of what parts are necessary to swap ? It looks like the parts are mostly external so no major surgery needed.
    Maybe a photo?

The governor weights inside are different between tractor and combine. You need all the tractor internal and external parts to do this.

Oh darn. I think I'll run it the way it is then. Not that bad to deal with.

It's not a bad job at all. You just need a donor engine for the parts.

The difference is how the governor is designed to operate.

The combine power unit is intended to run the combine at a preset constant speed... it has a low-idle position, but when time to operate, it runs at that preset speed, not 'somewhere in-between.

The tractor engine is intended to be variable in it's speed setting... any point between low idle, and full speed.

The combine governor in a tractor application will work, but it will NOT be particularly stable at any point other than full governed speed.  It will be VERY stable at that speed... meaning... a very slight change in load will be responded to.

The variable governor of a tractor allows choosing the setpoint, but in doing so, sacrifices sensitivity and accuracy.

The constant speed governor of a power unit sacrifices adjustability for sensitivity and accuracy.

So governor parts from a 190XT’s G2800 301 only?
What about the G2500’s governor parts used in either the 180gas or 190gas ??

180-190-190XT all the same parts. 180 might have a weaker spring.

Finding a donor engine may be a challenge nearby.I will start looking.

I would not put up with a combine gov in a tractor! You may not find one close but there has to be plenty in salvage in the states. It can't be that cost prohibitive.

Tomorrow is another week.I will start the search around here first . Any suggestions for possible places to try in the northern states?

Hi again
I have located a 190 parts tractor in a wrecking yard close by. The fellow pulling the parts is not sure how much I need and how to pull it out.
Parts books don't help much and no service manual handy.
Does the whole front plate need  to be pulled?
It is 2 hours home and we could get it tomorrow if we know how to get it off.
He thinks he needs to pull off the front pulley and the whole front plate. Is that correct?

NO !!   Disconnect everything that attaches to the governor arm on the engine. Remove the 2 bolts on the timing cover and remove the cover. Allow the governor arm to drop down to the rear and pull the governor right out the removed cover hole. Fan belt might be in the way but I don't think so.
