I have a late model 8070 fwa. Its my understanding there was a ratio change in the drive train in some or maybe all of the later tractors. Does anyone what know the speeds were on those tractors. I cant find that information anywhere

The change was in 2WD units. FWA was always faster like 30's and 50's. Testing showed the narrower faster finals would hold up in 2WD 8070's so at #2662 the change was made. Can't tell you the numbers. I think they were just using up 7080 parts before the change. In Norm's book.

Latest model 8000's had a faster LOW range. I don't have the numbers but I do know 5th gear was in the 6.0 to 6.2 MPH area, so it was 10% or 12% speed increase. The negative was 1st gear may have been 2.0+MPH instead of less than 2.0 MPH. The change was made at 8050 s/n 2814 and up. 8070 fwa was s/n 2359.

Some quick math comes up with this: Old gearing of LOW range Power Shift trans: 2.0-2.7-3.7-4.7-5.8-7.3 MPH. New LOW range gearing only in the last year or so of 8000 series as I remember it. Effective at certain s/n's: 2.1-3.0-4.0-5.0-6.2-7.8 MPH. This is at 2300 RPM with 20.8 x 38 rubber on an 8050/8070 fwa chassis. Now, 8070's rated speed was 2400 RPM so its actual speeds are a little faster yet.

We have gps setup for all the 80##. The 8070 pd with 20.8x 38 will go 20.4 on the hwy. The ps 8050 and 8010 with 18.4 will top out at 19.ish
