Live traps NOT working, seems to know what will happen and skirts around them. Gets on the house decl and schitts, all over the place. Wife had enough the other day gave Okie Dokie to drop the woodland rat.

thats what i do... Introduce them to 22 ... No Repeat offenders.... Wife has cat food on the front porch... If they come at night to eat, i bring the food in at 11 PM... Within a week the rats figure out to come at 10:30 .... Problem solved... I go to the side door 50 feet away.. clean shot right off the end of the deck...... same with possum.

2-3 large Marshmallows in live trap usually work?

I prefer Duke's dog proof hand hold traps, and shoot at your leisure, steada waiting in the dark...Wink

I use stinky fishy cat food, smear some in a line, perpendicular line to a path he walks, about head high (coon's head) on objects like shrubs, trees, fence posts, etc, at the far end of the line, put the trap, at a 45, as shown in the vid.  A spoonful of cat food, then a jumbo marshmallow, spiked on the trigger of the trap...

.

Some coons get too big for the regular "have a heart" live traps, so you can never catch them.

My father ended up building a bigger copy that caught the whoppers.

If yours is double ended, wire one door and put the bait there so they have to cross the trigger pan twice.

Google dog proof coon trap . We have been using them at my friends 80 acre hunting farm over by Pittsfield Il. Very effective as we have caught over 30 coons and just as many possums. Canned cat food dry catfood and marshmallows work best. While turkey hunting we find the nest get raided and most of the turkey eggs are getting eaten . Hopefully the purge will help.

Relocate the Possum's a couple miles down the road
Relocate the Coon a foot or 2 deep .

Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

I am going to try this. Board ramp to a 300 gal. chemical tank. Stinky bait. A few holes for smell to get out. I don't think they can jump out if they will drop in. 22 extraction method.

I built a special cage out of a tool crib, to keep the coons out of my bags of range cubes.
It would not be so bad if they just opened one bag but when they open a bunch of bags......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!  They open them all for fun.   The storage cage is doing a good job keeping them out of the cubes.
Now to build a coon proof bagged cat food storage.

Back growing up on the farm my grandfather did not like hunting. He allowed my brother and I to hunt but 100 percent legal, free chase and you better eat ,use as much as possible. But raccoons were a different story. It was open season year round and he could care less how you did it or what you did with it afterwards. He hated them with a passion. My father claimed it was the coons destroying the sweet corn that really set him off. My grandfather claimed the coons would wait until the night before he planned to harvest to destroy the crop.
