A while back, maybe 10-15 years ago, on this site I seen someone came up with a better coupler to connect the shafts instead of bolting two hubs together? I'd like to fabricate a lighter hand clutch/hydraulic housing and ditch the cast housing and that'd require a sleeve type coupler. I want to saybif memory serves me right it may have been the input shaft to pinion coupler from a WC?

I'm the guy with the couplers, they are an exact copy of the coupler that Allis used on WD and WD45 tractors when ordered without a hand clutch. The price is $90.00 includes shipping in the 48 states. On the shelf, email if interested: sledace@aol.com

Is the power director a weak link? By how much? In other words, how much HP will it tolerate?

The hand clutch on a WD or WD45 isn't the same as a Power Director clutch. They can only handle maybe 70 HP where the D-17 can handle over 100 HP.
