I was checking out the MarketPlace stuff last night when I came up on an interesting,,Hand Held Arc welder shaped like a gun from SakerPlus. It is 115 VAC,, 20-120 amp operating,,,3/32" -1/8" rod size for small, every day jobs. It is IGBT Invertor technology. Amazon has em at $123. I seem to need something that can be picked up quick and start tacking or welding out small pieces. I always roll up the leads on the Lincoln arc 125 and the 175 wire machine and this could be picked up and start tacking instead of unrolling and rolling back up,,,?? Has anyone seen these or tried one,,,??

I have a different brand, but it weighs 20 pounds or so.. It is a 120- 240 v unit.. On 120 v it dont do so good. It will burn 1/16 or .080 inch rod pretty good.. but thats not what i use. On 3/ 32 rod it dont have enough ass to really weld good. You need about 90 amps and even tho it SAYS it will do 120 amps, it will not. They are assuming you can get 35 amps input at 120 v... All house plugs are 20 amps, so you can get about 75 amps MAX output on the welder at 120v.... Now if you plug into a 240 v plug that is 30 amps, YES, you can weld 3/32 or 1/8 rod at 100 - 120 amps and do a good job.. ------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s. |

they seem to have a FEW good reviews on some sites.. but half of the reviews are questionable.... The REALITY is that you cant get 90 amps output when your using a 120v INPUT 20 amp plug.... so i dont know how they are using 3/32 rod .. and 1/8 would be worse..

I'd love to see the manual on that welder ! From the front page the AC cord looks real 'small', maybe no ground either ? Wondering what the OCV ( Open Circuit Voltage ) is ? Even IF I had a 20 amp plug... could be a nice 'toy' IF I was into 'thin tin' repairs like newer lawn mower decks. Could be useful for quick tack welds(holders until REAL steel added...... ) ------------- 3 D-14s,A-C forklift, B-112 Kubota BX23S lil' TOOT( The Other Orange Tractor) Never burn your bridges, unless you can walk on water |
