What are you trying to do to bevel gear box

That shaft he slipped in is larger dia where it shoulders gear. Mine has a wire ring. Looks like just drive shaft out of gear. I have a broken tooth gear box in running tractor and "good" gear box in parts tractor. The good box has a bad keyway on through shaft. The bad box has good through shaft. I thought I 'd just switch shafts but don't know the procedure

The ring is a pain in but you just work it out with a pick. Usually gets bent and should be replaced. And should not have to drive gear. The ring is what holds it. There was different shafts. Depends on whether it was a gear shift or hydro or variable speed.
