Hey everyone, hope you're all having a great summer. I'm trying to figure out what the most efficient way is to replace our fan belt that broke. I got a new one all rubber so no linkage to connect. Our tractors engine pulley is attached to the hydraulic pump and I'm wondering how to detach it so I can slip the belt over the engine. I'm seeing some bolts there around the pulley but very limited range to work on. Any advice is welcome. I'm hoping not to have to take the hood off and radiator and all of that.. So far she's been running amazing after all the work we did on her last winter, thanks to the people on this forum really! |

Got it done yesterday, took me 2 hours 45mins, start to finish, re-used coolant as that was fresh from a few months ago. Only using handwrenches. Ran her afterwards, seems to be working good again. I did notice something of concern to me, it seems that the alignment of the alternator pulley is not completely straight aligned with the fan and engine pulley, not sure why that is, but since the belt has "teeth" it seems to run into the alternator groove just fine. I tried finangling with the alternator bracket but I'm not sure how to adjust it so it aligns straight in line with the other pulleys. Anyways, it's working for now, we'll see I guess. |

| Many of these old cars and such had misaligned alternators right from the factory. Some a little and some a fair bit. All seemed to work well so not a big deal I guess. Take a look next time you are at an old car show. |

| I think belt alignment is more important at upper engine RPM’s and these tractors likely will never reach that. Unless the alignment is seriously bad |

| That's great to hear thanks for sharing that bit of info. Indeed the belt runs fine even if the alternator is slightly off. Worked her hard a few days ago, moving a shed, belt held up beautifully! |

| Now, don't just go head and forget about your new fan belt. It WILL STRETCH and get seated into the 50+ year old pulleys. It will need to be tightened up a time or two maybe in 100 hrs of use. As much work as it is to change, letting it slip because it got loose would be bad. |
