Posted the other day about grazing leases for my son-in-law and daughters new place. Was out there yesterday and saw the Owner of the cattle with a bucket of feed Thought he was just trying to get a bull back in the fence. He was quite a distance from me so didn't walk out to chat.

About an hour later notice all the cattle were gone and walked over to look. Apparently he moved them but one cow was down in a ditch dead and probably had been since day prior. Not sure what happened but now the cow is laying in direct water shed that feeds into a very large pond....for sure need to get that moved before the next rain & rot sets in.

My city slicker daughter and husband learning about country living quick!

Oh my, welcome to the Green Acres adventure. Not like its ranch country where it can be up to the varmints, buzzards & mother nature or at best dig a hole & bury it. Will be a test for how responsible the neighbor is.

I don't know if they still have rendering operations around or if you can get a truck close to winch it out. Certainly would be the responsibility of the owner if he steps up-I assume it's on their land. Good Luck to all.

The old saying still rings true. "If you have livestock you'll soon have deadstock". I agree it's a good way to find out what kind of person the neighbor is. Hopefully they don't get stuck with a dud

Just don’t raise sheep, cross eyes at them they die, yell at them they die, sneeze or cough and many die, forget to rotate wormer meds and many die. Gets too hot many die, same too cold many die, brackish water does not seem to phase them but too cold and they get sick, die.

Got this from a ex sheep herding farmer north of here.

No sheep but they did buy a couple of goats....dog barked at one of them and he dropped (fainted) like he'd been shot straight thru the head. Hilarious.

Fortunately the cow is accessible via truck or tractor with a lot of room to manuever....we'll see what the next day or two brings in high 90's / 100's heat!

Renter loses a few per year across all their rented acreage, usually drag back away from structures or the other four legged bovines and allows the carrion scrappers to feast. Coyotes, coons, possums and Vultures usually have a carcass stripped to hide and bone in a matter of days.

Owner was aware. He did remove the cow yesterday.

It has been 50 years since anyone could afford to have the rendering plant pick a dead critter up out here in the west. Sixty years ago they paid to come get one, from what I was told.

I as well wish the property owns luck that the cows owner will remove her from the creek.

In central KS in 1940 - 1950 was a rendering works nearby (probably Great Bend) that would give Dad a sizeable bar of soap(?) when they picked up a dead animal . Herb(GA)

Herb, I didn't know your family had a KS connection way back when. Wouldn't want to be there now, it's too hot.
