Finally found a starter for the HD5 and fired it up. Throttle returns to idle, small band brake inside throttle assy is rusted and broken. Is there a source for the small band brake or is there something close that can be cobbled to replace that band?
And is there a proper term for that band, cuz every search turns up steering band brakes, ha ha .
Thanks

PS, learned to check the air cutoff butterfly for proper adjustment before starting a 271 for first time. Rack was stuck, slowly built to a runaway as air cleared from system. Shutoff wouldnt work and enough air got past air shutoff so it was necessary to block intake at air cleaner. Not a big deal but would have been an easy check on the butterfly.

2 units were used - early had a kind of round plate mounted on throttle lever , later had a wider casting with a adjusting bolt .
Might have a old style out back

Mine is the drum connected to lever with a small band brake and an adjusting bolt. Hoping to find the band with brake material on it. If not available, may be able to make a new band and glue leather on instead of brake material. Leather should last a while.
Thanks for getting back to me.
