good day everyone!  I am working on my wife's families 1949 WD and the fuel cap seal looks to need replacingso I bought a cork one from DJ's and its way too big and the NBR one dimensions are way too small.  looks like I need a 2 3/16" OD with a1 3/8" ID gasket, anyone have a lead on those?

Also, I took the manifold off to fix a leaking gasket only to find that the inner 2 most exhaust ports are ~1/8" to slightly more outboard than the intake ports.  They have some heavy pitting and I speculate with the leak they are missing material.  Has anyone machined the surfaces back flat or is it best to find a replacement manifold?  the photos look like they are not planar but I laid the straight edge against the intake port as to me that is more critical to seal.  could the manifold gaskets take up that much gap?  doesnt seem correct

If the manifold is in good condition and not rotted thin ....... then YES, i would machine if flat.. Hard for a gasket to takeup that much difference.

try to make your photos approx 800 x 600 pixels..

Thanks Steve, first time posting pictures here so didnt know the size, it came in as 1080x1080 but in the future I will do that.  I plan to post about the seat here shortly as ive never seen a seat like what it has on it.

I'm confident if you contact DJ's they will make it right with you on the gasket.  I've always had good luck with them.  Oh, and thanks for saving another WD.  It is appreciated!

I don't have a machine shop but I have "trued" them up using a big ol' flat b-stard file.
Takes some patience and some "elbow grease".
And, for good measure, I have also leveled up the surface on manifolds by applying good quality furnace cement when installing.

I use a large Belt sander on the manifolds to true them up.

Like Dan, I normally use a large stationary belt sander. I then help the manifold seal against the head with some Permatex Exhaust and Muffler sealer.
