I was just curious,  is there a reason the top of an Allis Roto Baler is shaped like an air plane wing,  or is it just a fluke.

Not to be a drag, but I always thought it was an uplifting design...Wink

Probably designed after WWII by laid off aeronautical engineer, since war had ended.
Enabled the hay to fly through the baler.

Its so when you throw your hat or wrench or hammer in the air in total frustration, it will hit the roof, rapidly decelerate and slide off. Thus when the tool hits you in the head, you will be reminded how useless losing your temper over a rotobaler is

I always wondered if that was just "the times" for styling departments at American companies during this period.

Maybe the AC styling department was told "we need a roof over this thing to keep water off, and here's a few bucks to make it look cool" and this was the result during the post-WWII air boom era.

I don't think it looks bad, but it definitely doesn't match the styling of anything else AC made that I can think of.

Well, you see here, after the whole roto baler was designed except for roof, the engineer and his "wing" man, were "flying" by the seat of their pants to come up with a design....

I wonder if it was maybe some excess war tooling that was easily and cheaply modified to work
