Anyone ever planted green beans with a grain drill? I have an old Allis 16x7 (Lacrosse brand) with a peas setting. Just curious if it’s been done, I’m up in the north woods where planters are few and far between and the ones that were here went to china in 2009.

Set it for the least amount of seed depth as possible. If you don't see some beans every now and then, you are planting too deep.  Don't know what model drill you are using, but the old JD FB that I used to use had a door in the seed drop spout, with 3 slots, for the size of the seed being planted. Make sure it's set to the size of the beans you are planting, or the beans will split (too small a hole) or over plant(too big of a hole)...Wink

As already said plant shallow, the pea setting should be close to soybean.
I'd try a 10-20' strip on hard ground to make sure seeds aren't breaking and that space between seed is about what you desire. We used the farmyard area where we always drove on it.
I borrowed & used a JD8200 13' w 7.5" space on discs to drill beans 3 years in mid 90's, not sure what population count was. Just left it set as the owner had it for his bean acres. He did his beans 1/2 w the drill and 1/2 w 6x30" planter.
