This upcoming saturday this forage harvester is going to be auctioned off near Peterson MN which is located near rushford, in the SE part of MN. It looks to be in great shape and wonderful paint yet. I do not have much interest in this being that we allready have a Model 50 chopper, but I may go to the auction if time allows. Drug one of those around many years with a WD45D when I was a kid....walked that pto guard many times to unplug the *%^**$# thing too. Not a very good design....my dad still has one sitting in the trees, very low hours, neighbor ran a Crescent wrench through it.....needs knives. ------------- ALLIS EXPRESS! This year: |

We used on of these for corn for thirty years. Later years we had one for hay and one for corn. Very simple design to set up the shear bars and too very little power to run. Sometimes when you were first starting the head would plug until you had a shine on it. We replaced the corn one with a 707 New Holland. The A-C still sits in the shed and the 707 is gone, enough said. I did notice in the other pictures on the sale bill there appears to be a 220 sitting behind the corn picker. Jim |

I guess they musta been good for Iowa corn....our SD corn was either too tall or too short to feed in right, even after the dealer installed the bottom roller upgrade. It always wore the knives in one spot, so you had to grind the heck out of the rest to get that center spot sharp. With the hay head on, it fed in more evenly and you didn't have that problem. The other weak spot on the corn head was the gear box for the sickle - maybe SD corn was just too dry and tough LOL.....it was a relief to chop with the Gehl Bros chopper we finally ended up with. I do remember we borrowed an old Case from a neighbor one year and that one cut great...it cut everything 1/4" long....leaves, stalks and cob...made real nice silage. ------------- ALLIS EXPRESS! These did have some design flaws in short corn, but were a real pioneer in the shearbar setup and knife sharpening system. Could have worked better in different areas as well. A friend of mine bought this for $250 and it is going to a good home. Jim |

| They used the same gearbox for the corn head and the direct cut hay attachment, so that had to be changed when switching heads. I will agree with Eldon that the gearbox was weak. We were always fixing ours. |
