I was loading hay with my 185 and 500 loader and the loader lacked about 6 inches of travel from going all the way up, it will go all the way up without a bale. Bales weigh about 1300 lbs but I’ve never had this trouble before today . Checked hyd oil was full. I do have a joystick on this tractor that I plumbed into the hyd line going to rear remotes but has been working fine until today
Any one have any ideas what could be wrong ? Thanks

If you are positive the hydraulic oil level is good id say relief valve. As the loader goes higher the angle becomes such that the cylinder doesnt have as much leverage as it does when its lower. Takes more pressure to get that last bit with a load on it

Probably the relief valve on the tractor or the joystick valve?

Or just maybe, you've reached the threshhold of max lift capacity for your hydraulic system. Don't rush to judgement just yet.

Ok ,It was working fine then while loading the same load of hay it wouldn’t lift it up all the way and also once it got noticeably slower and then stopped

If it  will it go all the way up with no load and not make bad noises, cackle and cavitate then the oil level is probably adequate. It might hurt if it had an extra gallon just to test --- you cab take the extra gallon back out. If I owned it it would leak the extra gallon out somewhere soon enough!!

I checked the relief pressure with a gauge in the remote and deadheaded remote about 1500 rpm and had right around 1950 psi , I tried to adjust it up to around 2200 psi and it wouldn’t go any further also tried swapping with traction booster valve

BUT, if you have a "joy stick/power beyond valve, the tractors relief valve ain't the problem !! How are you plumbed ??

I hooked into the line going to remotes , flow goes from hyd pump to joystick and then out to the remotes and then plumbed return to the drain plug on hyd resivoir.

So, the joystick relief trumps the tractor relief on the loader.  RECHECK at higher RPM's for 2,200 PSI relief setting.  Maybe your pump has internally blown a seal on a backup plate. Adjustment of a relief valve should have changed something but your joystick relief is in charge here, not the tractor relief.

Do you know if a seal kit is available from agco or do you need to get a new hyd pump?

Partsbooks shows the "seals" for the wear plates and the wear plates still available. Those parts alone can make a BIG difference in performance.

I bought a rebuild kit with new wear plates and seals ect took pump off and took apart and installed kit . The middle section had some wear on the wear plates but all th seals were ok .

My question is when I tighten the bolts down to 35 ft lbs the pump seems to turn hard I have to use a pair of pliers to turn it , but it does turn smooth

Is this normal or do I have something wrong?

Normal. Dump some oil it it to be sure there is enough lube for start-up.

I figured out the problem why I am only getting around 1800 psi relief. The relief valve in the joystick had 1750 stamped in it for 1750 psi and remotes are now dumping at 1750 because it is in between the remote valve and pump, so no matter what it will only build 1750.

I ordered a adjustable relief valve for the joystick that I will adjust to about 2200 and then recheck the remote valve relief pressure and I should be good
