Looking for info on doing this conversion. I’m tired of dealing with lackluster spark, hard starting. New factory points and condenser was expensive but provided no change. Known good coil from my other 720 made no difference nor did new plugs. So I’m hoping Mike or someone will chime in that has done the conversation with info and cost to do this upgrade as well as where they purchased the kit.
Thanks
Rob

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Thanks Steve, looking through that thread gave me bad news until I read about the kit from SLI. Keeping the charging system is of extreme importance! Brenda told me they had a kit available about a month ago. $172 I think she said. That’s a lot of cash but I heard on YouTube guys said it works well. Still doing some more investigating on my issue. Hoping to stay factory but not sure how much more of aggravation I can take.

The Onan opposed twins are frequently challenged by ignition problems.

One thing to look out for, is the "changed these things, and no improvement"...

When you change parts, and nothing improves, the reason is most often, that the parts you changed, were not at fault.  When I'm working on engines that do this (and Onan is one of them)... I make up some 12awg jumper wires, and I go from the battery - post to the block near the points, and from battery + direct to the distributor.  If the spark situation improves, I start replacing ground and power wires, and the ignition switch.

I is not infrequent that problems with the ignition switch, power and ground wires, are limiting the ignition's ability to act properly.

Dave I didn’t even think about the ignition switch since it appears to be working correctly(never a issue with it not engaging the starter or shutting the engine down)but it is 40 years old. Wouldn’t that be something if that was it. Will be working on it after Thanksgiving. Thanks
