I was gifted one about 3 years ago, I cannot cook on that darn thing. I read the manual over and over, watched videos and gave up on it.
Tired of ruining meat whether it was chicken, beef or pork.
been cooking on a real smoker and grill  and an electric smoker for years with great success. All the pit boss did was dry out the meats and put ash all over the food.

Also don't get me started on the Bad boy Maverick that was also a gift that is unable to give a decent cut, have to mow twice with it to get a decent cut.

I've have a Camp Chef pellet grill for a few years. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I absolutely love it. No flaring up like charcoal or gas grill, especially with chicken or fatty meats. Taste of food is comparable to charcoal, depending on what kind of pellets you use (I, personally, don't like mesquite.)
I liked it well enough that I bought a Pit Boss tabletop grill for our RV. I have only used the Pit Boss once, but I find very little difference between the Camp Chef and Pit Boss.
My advice is to read the manual and follow the manufacturers instructions.
