working on tractor with brother and nephew. I have a carburetor, for my gas engine but no starter. I will find a starter, at this moment no problem. They are looking possibly for a carburetor. he has a marvel schebler that came on the engine they purchased, but it faces the same direction as a D17. I know the air intact faces the front of the tractor on the 170-175. my question finally, is will the linkage and the fuel line still work reversing the carburetor to connect with the air line coming from the front of the tractor. the fuel will be coming in on the side of the marvel next to the block. if any one has suggestions or photos of what it should look like when installed, that would be awesome. the parts book shows the same illustration as a D17 parts book, but with different text information.

If you can get a 175 carb throttle shaft and shaft seals, you could turn that D17 carb around and then figure out what to do with the choke. Turning the carb around makes everything bass-ackwards and nothing works. Bolt it on that way and you'll see what I mean.

operators manual shows photo of marvel schebler carburetor with fuel line coming straight out the back for a 170 175. how hard is it to drill a new hole for the fuel line.

Not hard. I think most of those castings were made to be drilled in one of three places. Having the inlet on the block side won't hurt or bother anything. A choke or throttle plate that won't work is a real issue.

Wow I just remembered something from 52 years ago. Our new 180 gas’ choke cable kept freezing. We ran like a 14 gauge automotive wire from choke lever on carb up to the bottom of the handle guarding the hi Lo hyd lever or hyd pto ( can’t remember which side carbs on) Used it that way for 5000 hours.
