Hello,

Background: I installed a new clutch cable early this year.

I was doing some chores with my 6080 today. 1st range all gears can be engaged with no trouble. However, 2nd range was grinding all over the place. I have not tried 3rd range.

This is a new problem that is acting like an old problem. This was happening before I changed the cable.

Maybe I should try to adjust the cable? I am not quite understanding why this is happening in all ranges.

Thanks for all of the help.

You may want to check your external thrust bearing if it has one.  It caused a slightly different problem for us.

After we bought our 6060, with the clutch cable out of adjustment, we adjusted it and then sometimes the clutch wouldn't disengage.  We found that the external thrust bearing was out and the crankshaft travel was on the ragged edge of what was acceptable.  A new bearing solved the problem.

If the bearing does need adjustment, it's a good time to change the fan belt.  The Agco belt we bought a few years ago came with a copy of the service bulletin for proper bearing adjustment.

Thanks. Yes, it does have a front thrust bearing.

I can look at tolerances.

I am having a hard time with this one. Why would different ranges be different? Most of my mechanic experience is engine and electric.
