A friend called, he was looking at a 180 at an auction. He started it but the power director lever was stuck in low and he could not get it to move. The tractor supposedly has sat a lot so I suspect a rusty linkage. Any other likely cause?
TIA

Lever needs to be used and oiled occasionally.

Thanks Dr Allis.
I should clarify. The tractor would move, the lever would not.

+1 to what the Dr. said. Same thing when I bought my 180. The rod with the detent notches slides inside  a tube and had seized up. Easy fix.

Just bought a 185 with the same deal- theres a tube under the cowl hood with a spring and detent places- sprayed Blaster in there every day for a few days - tapped it with a hammer every day- now works smooth as when it left West Allis,,
