I have a brand new wd45 crank that I'm putting into a WD block. Everything is new. The manual states that I need .011 thrust clearance, but mine is at .030. Is the only remedy for this to have the crank machined down to get the timing gear back .019? Frustrating issue for new parts. Thanks guys.

On a "B", i have pulled the timing gear off and machined the back side with a STEP and then pushed back on the shaft.. No machining of the shaft.

If it was mine.....I'd stick it together. .011" is a MINIMUM.

Thanks for that. I was thinking that too, but wasn't sure if it was a critical thing in these particular engines. I didn't want to assume. That can get expensive

.011 is a minimum on that engine ? .... Working on the 125 (B-C) engines i think the spec is .004  ........ that being said, when you disassemble I have normally seen .040 - .060 which is way too much. ..... i could live with .011.

I always pull the gear and machine the end to get the correct clearance. If you use the foot clutch a lot it only gets worse.

Just out of curiosity, I looked in my service manual. It says .011" max. Interesting how a brand new crank is already more than that. A D-17 spec is .005" to .013", which is from the center main, not the front main. A new crank will have a perfectly smooth thrust surface as will the new main bearing. I still wouldn't sweat it.

I agree, I had hoped for better, but it's what we have available. I guess the parts places bring them in for us, and it's up to us to check them out. I should have been more diligent in checking it over. Kinda makes me wonder what else might be an issue. Better than what I had though.
