I’m had this tractor 3-4 years it’s been harder to steer the most of the time I’ve owned it. Been bad enough twice were I’ve had to use brakes to steer. First time old school Allis mechanic pulled the priority valve and cleaned it a got me going. Second time I did it. It now is currently steerable but takes EFFORT. It had some other issues to so it landed at the Agco dealership(was Allis back in the day). The tech that got assigned to it admits he’s new to working on tractors but sounds fairly mechanically inclined. He agrees it steers hard. He’s checked the priority valve, checked flows and pressures. He has changed filters it’s no better. He admits he’s at a loss where to look next. Flows and pressures are good. I told him I’d do some research over the weekend and get back with him.

Ideas?

Something in the steering column? He has the front end up on blocks and still stubborn.

If it is a FWA, the axle u-joints could be dry and trying to seize. If you have it jacked up, unhook one end of the steering cylinder and use a pry bar between the tire and spindle and try to turn the wheels. New u-joints made my 8070 steer like new.

Take the steering cylinder loose on one end and see if you have the same results
That will tell ya for sure if you have a hydraulic issue or a binding issue in the front end

Make sure the office didn't get lost during one of the checks.                 MACK
