1949, per Swinford's book.  No 5b, just HD5 listed in the book...Wink

Just read a little more, B model has a wider track gauge, A model narrower.  No other differences...Wink

Is 1949 
Numbers ran from 4316 to 7498 for the year 
Started in 1946 with #1 and last one in 1955 at # 29255 
Built in A , B , G , and F configuration , around 1952 units updated transmission with a 2 speed reverse and dropped the 5th forward gear . 
The rear housing was also use on the HD6 and modified with updates on later units of the 6 , Track , rollers, idlers , sprockets all carried from 5 to 6
