I have a 1929 United tractor. Recently I had to remove the fuel tank to clean it out. The casting date stamped into the head caught my attention: it was 11-11-28. I know a great source of knowledge for Allis information is the C.H. Wendel Story of Allis Chalmers Book. I call it the Allis Bible. He mentions on page 299 that in 1927 an announcement was made that the 15-25 would be discontinued and replaced in 1929 with a new design, the United. Can someone make light of this head? Was it a leftover from the 15-25's?

The 15-25 used a Midwest engine which was an overhead valve design. The early United and 'U' tractors used a Continental engine which was a sidevalve design with a more or less flat head.

Most likely the Continental S-10 engine was in production before being tapped for the power plant for the United/U Allis'.

You're questioning that AC would've cast a batch of heads in late 1928 for their new tractor? Seems pretty likely to me.
