Subject: Got bad news about my mother in law

She was diagnosed with bone and lung cancer and she's been having trouble concentrating and has been confused. She got a brain scan today and the cancer has moved to her brain. Not sure what the next step is yet. Just waiting

Thanks buddy. Haven't told the girls yet. Really dreading that one. Danielle is holding up in front of her mama but is in pieces otherwise. They're about as tight as they can be. I don't think her daddy understands what is going on. He thought the Dr said she had a stroke. I guess the only good side is I don't think Linda really understands any of it

Thanks Hubert and everybody else. The oncologist came in and said they're going to give her some antibiotics and steroids and that should help with the confusion. Everything is stage 4. They're going to keep her tonight and will do an MRI tomorrow then see what's the best way to go.

Earlier today my father in law called Danielle and said she was more like herself but as the steroids started to wear off she started getting the confusion back. She told Danielle and Thomas both to go home because she didn't want them to stay tonight. She'd rather they slept in their beds. They put her on seizure medication. I'm assuming for prevention due to the swelling. I think they're recommending she see a neurologist. Probably have to be moved to a different hospital. I think the closest one is on Cartersville and that's about 20 miles southwest of here. I guess we'll see what tonight and tomorrow hold

Update* Linda got moved to a hospital in Atlanta on Sunday. She's had 2 more MRIs since then. There's no cancer in her spine and, according to the neurologist, she shouldn't be able to walk around and speak with where the cancer is in her brain but she's up walking and talking almost as good as ever. They're going to try radiation was the last I heard. She wants to come home but don't know when that'll happen. The room at the hospital in Atlanta is much more comfortable then in Jasper so my father in law has been staying with her so it's been pretty quiet around here (they're our neighbors). Continued prayers are much appreciated. Doctors say they don't really understand why she's able to get around as well as she is. We believe they need to go to church and would probably learn a lot more than they learned in med school

Here's a shocker for me, she's coming home today! I guess they figure they can treat her at the oncologists office here in town and not keep her at the hospital. Praise be to God!!

Mother in law had scans the other day. Keytruda appears to be working. No more cancer in her lymph nodes and the cancer in her lung is shrinking. Supposed to start radiation on her brain cancer on Monday. She's been taking steroids for the brain tumors and they seem to be helping her mind but they're causing muscle fatigue. Having trouble with her legs being strong enough to lift her. They backed up a little on the steroids to see if that helps.
Danielle is having a hard time with her stepdad. Any time they go to the Dr and Danielle goes he leaves the room as soon as she's there so he doesn't have to hear it. They've never had the best relationship from her side and he might end up seeing a side of her he hasn't seen and it's not very pretty.

Wife's best friend had lung cancer that metastasized to brain. Docs gave her 3-4 yrs. We made arrangements to be there for the kids growing up, weddings, ect. Diagnosis was approx 2008. She's doing OK. They don't try to cure her. They just reduce tumors when visible in scans (she can't have any more microwave treatments). Her daughter marries this August with her mom in attendance:)

Here's an update, Linda has been in the hospital for around 20 days but has come home today. The Keytruda treatments have been working on the lung and lymph nodes. She's had 10 radiation treatments on the brain lesions. I don't know what they've seen as far as change there. My FIL hired an old neighbor who has experience helping with situations like this and she'll be staying here a good amount and helping. Linda seems better than she did when she went into the hospital but still not all there and I doubt seriously she'll ever get back to Linda. She didn't want Danielle and the girls coming to visit her in the hospital mainly because she couldn't rest. That's been very hard on Danielle because she hasn't seen her mama in almost 3 weeks and they normally see each other almost daily. I hear them laughing at the moment but I'm sure they're will be a good cry when we get home. Continued prayers for all of us would be very much appreciated. This isn't going to end well I'm sure but it looks a little better now than it did I guess. Maybe we'll know a little better in a few days. As the old song says "farther along we'll understand why"

Hospice has been called for Linda. Danielle told them she didn't want to be there for the evaluation and she doesn't want updates. We have a lake trip planned and she says we're going. It seems a little cold I guess but if Danielle was involved she'd be in shambles. She's VERY VERY close to her mama.

Today is my birthday and Linda got the present. She went home to see Jesus about 2 this morning. Danielle is some what holding up. Girls took it hard. Danielle says we're staying at the lake because it's a very calm and soothing place. Linda will be cremated and we'll be spreading some of her ashes at the farm and some in Cades Cove.

Thanks buddy. Linda wanted it done right in my opinion. She said NO FUNERAL, NO VISITATION!! She didn't want people looking at her or feeling sorry for each other. She wanted a celebration. Everybody to tell stories and have good laughs even if they're at her expense.

Can relate Tyler, my own personal choices as well. Have a bottle of Blantons, NOT for my use but for after my end for those that can remember me, a dinner, a drink and a toast, cremation no visitation, simple prayer request at Catholic Church, and whatever they wish to do with the cremains as I will NOT care. Have a reservation spot on my Mother's plot, wife said will see to that if survives me, nephew noted will also follow these requests.
