Outside of the head what are the differences internally in the 301 block between a diesel and a gas engine.What I am getting at is the gas block the same as the diesel?Can the internal components be swapped from gas to diesel?

Blocks interchange if they are the same year/vintage. You cannot use a 1965 gas block in a 1972 200 diesel tractor because the oil pump mounting design was changed. The change was made to the block. You will have to be very specific about what you are trying to do.

I don't have a project going but I have a gas 301 out of a g combine and was just wondering.

The last year for the model "G" Gleaner was 1972. The model 200 tractor was also released in 1972. So, there is a slight chance that the combine block might have the mounting ears for the crankshaft driven oil pump, but if I was going to guess, probably not. You can tell for sure if you drop the oil pan.

I think the last couple years of the G combine had GM gas engines.

Yes, you're correct. I didn't have many model G's. So, the 301 gasser last year was 1969 or 1970, which would be the older block casting.

just keep in mind- the 2900 or any oil cooler equipped 301 had a plug in the rear oil galley that kept the oil passage closed and routed oil through the cooler from the pump to a line that went externally around the back of the block and either into the filter base or back into the block. Keep this in mind if a swap from a gas to a xt diesel.
