Decided to go ahead and pull my front support to find out were my power steering was leaking. Very difficult to see with the radiator in the way. One thing I found is the sump pipe is loose in the fitting even though the pipe nut is tight. Is this normal? The pipe goes down in the fitting secure but it just makes no sense to me why the pipe can be turned easily. It will actually wobble slightly. Just seams like that may be my leak? Im going to replace the seal in the steering control valve were the worm shaft is. Also removed the pedestal to replace the seal on the bottom of the front support. The parts breakdown just shows a fitting. I just need to know if it should move after the big nut is tightened. Some seals used by AC back then were leather It's possible that it has deteriorated enough to not be sealing. Look up inside the nut....there should be some remnants; might have to pick at it a little. Looking at the assembly and how it was made, I think the nut should move up onto the tube if all that is cleared out. You can make a leather seal to replace it or an o'ring should work too; just don't over-tighten it.

Some of those had a square rubber seal that went inside the nut. They were pretty thick unlike just a common o-ring. Maybe you can find a rubber hose of that will fit over the pipe and still allow the nut to thread over the hose and cut some seals yourself. ------------- He who says there is no evil has already deceived himself The truth is the truth, sugar coated or not. Charlie, not sure your going to be able to reach it due to the radiator. I will call Alex tomorrow, thanks for the suggestion. At this point I have decided to go ahead and send my generator to Steve for a rebuild. He is also building a new wiring harness. After I replaced the brakes, drum, axle seal, pinion seals, I was driving it at the farm, apparently a mud dobber nest was built in the fan shield. It came loose, hit the fan blades and knocked 3 holes in the radiator!! Took it to a radiator shop and he hopes it can be repaired but I won’t know until later this week. Hope I don’t have to buy a radiator. Guess I will clean her up and prep it for paint. With the sump pump pipe and fitting NLA, I came up with this solution and it worked out well. I tried placing a thick o-ring in the top of the nut in place the deteriorating rubber sleeve. It didn’t help tighten the fitting.  Repaired another problem on the D17. Previous owner had twisted off the oil filter base drain plug which made a huge mess when I change oil. The rear 2 bolts are a bear to get off, requires the removal of the steering rod and support.
