pick up a 185 and notice a hyd. or oil filter is on for a fuel filter. tractor runs great then dies. wait a couple minutes and fires back up. Im thinking its starving for fuel. good flow to primer. seems a little lite going into pump I think. any thoughts? was going to get pump rebuilt because Im seeing some crap under the cover of pump witch plugs the little ball fitting in the return line. the tractor runs great with lots of power, cant believe the pump is bad?? is the filter going to be the issue? Thanks for any impute. dont want to take the pump out for rebuild if I dont think its the issue.

Sounds like the governor drive ring is falling apart and clogging your return line with rubber. This is a really common failure mode on the Roosamaster pumps. An overhaul will fix it, and you might have the option to replace the rubber drive ring with a metal coupling to eliminate the problem in the future.

The crap you see under cover is your problem. It is flex ring coming apart like BrettPhillps said. Time to get it rebuilt. MACK

most common issue with the Roosa DB pumps. Today's fuel attacks the flex ring much sooner than the old days. Most pumps on tractors that get used regularly, I install the EID weight retainer upon rebuild to eliminate the failure prone flex ring altogether. It's an expensive part now at about 145$ but well worth the investment.
