I just bought this HD7G and it won't move under it's own power. I was able to drag it onto the trailer using the bucket but the drive shaft out of the torque converter barely spins. Is this most likely due to no oil? The pressure gauges are non functioning so I can't check that. I haven't had a chance to check the trans oil, filter, or screens yet. Is there anything else I should look for that may also cause this?

Also, what year would serial number 24131 be? I'm thinking 64 or 65.

Will be one of the last 1972-1974 builds.  Oil level for trans is to left of left foot while seated, has to be on the stick at all not running and at operating line while running.  HYTRANS 10Wt oil.  Drive Shaft NOT turning is a BAD sign on these.  If converter driven scavenge pump drive is sheared you are done excpet to make something else work, are ZERO parts out there.  12 spline shaft not a industrial standard, the way it drives, will be a machinists nightmare to construct something different.
Eaton style pump, top right of converter housing, four bolt cover plate also on top right to access what can thru the hole.  DO NOT DROP ANYTHING IN THERE, to remove Converter REQUIRES engine and converter come out as a Assembly.  Entire front of tractor comes down to do that.  Are NO Lower Radiator hoses for these(Accordian) and next to no other sub parts unless find a donor tractor.

Would heavy oil possibly cause this? The fluid was just barely on the end of the stick so I added a bit just to try to get it on the trailer. The previous owner, who I was unable to ask about it as he died, had a new bucket of JD trans oil so I used that but it seemed a bit heavier than 10wt. I didn't find any indication on the bucket of the actual oil type though. I plan to thoroughly drain and refill with the correct type as a first step. What is a good recommended trans oil for this?

Thanks

You didn't mention why your gauges are inoperative. There are several pipe plug taps on the front of the trans where you can check pressure. I just can't remember the name of the company I ordered my new trans pump from some 7 years back. They matched the pump capacity, and provided the proper splined shaft . Cost me 500$. I will say that even a very worn pump will still provide enough pressure to run the trans and convertor. I wish I had that bucket on my 6G.

Before drain and refill pull that top cover at the converter drive, confirm the shaft is rotating, these were seriously stupid of shearing the shaft splines.

Go to Minnpar OEM Manuals FIAT ALLIS Loader 7G, pages 166/167 and 198 for basic layout of the system, 198 is where the large screen is identified.

Page 128 shows the Pump Drive layout.  The Splined hub on that page is Cast, the shaft a mild steel, then on 166/167 the adaptor coupler hardened steel to the splined pump shaft.

IF these are bad as to any more than one of them will be best to change the entire system over to a current Industrial standard spline dimension and couplings including pump.  Eaton was a Cessna series pump, the Hydreco pumps are long NA.

Like DMILLER remove the torque top cover and check if the gear is rotating

Thanks to all for the information. I was able to locate the OEM Parts manual, at minnpar but the pages don't seem to be the same as posted. I'll look through it and see if I can find the pages mentioned.

Edit: I noticed the pdf pages don't correspond the the actual printed page numbers so I got that sorted out.
Thanks again

Fought with my own machine some 9 years to keep it mobile, loads of small issues defeat the 7G series and rather easily.  The way the Trans hydraulics works is one section of the Scavenge pump sucks off Trans Bottom Screen, that delivers to the Large Screen Sump mid Left of Trans housing by way of the Left Clutch recess.  The Second section of the Scavenge pump draws from the Large Screen Sump to deliver thru the Filter to the Trans systems.  The LARGER Tin Tube that feeds forward is for the Two Section Steering Pump ENGINE mounted beneath the Injector Pump, only reasonable way to access that for removal is to tilt the Hard Nose all the way over otherwise a bugger to remove/reinstall.  And YES, I had mine off THREE TIMES.   No oil from scavenge pump to large screen sump and that little pump runs dry, burns it to toast RAPIDLY.  Also NLA.

Brakes for Steer, was cautioned by one of our Down Under associates to REDUCE The Power Assist to the brake assemblies, did not early enough or low enough and tore two brake bands apart, not readily available and a royal pain to remove as requires removal of the steering clutch to remove.
