I was coming out of Lowe's yesterday and there was a table set up , 2 young girls 7 or 8 years old and their dad . They asked if I would like to buy some popcorn. I asked what they were raising money for . The claimed it was for their soccer team. How much ? 15 dollars was their response. I looked at the dad and said Really ? Then looked at the young girls with those big sad eyes. How can you say no . So as I was walking away with my overpriced bag of popcorn I was wondering how do you Grandpa's and daddy's say no to these little creatures. My sister claims it is easier than you think .

Other people's daughters I don't have much problem with. My daughters on the other hand....

Easier than you think. We were caught for a few years on the ‘fundraising for the sake of fundraising’ merry go round when our kids were school aged.
Worlds Finest Chocolate, light bulbs, Christmas wrapping, FFA fruit boxes, etc., the list in endless.
What really pissed me, is when co-workers bring their kids stuff to the workplace, then get pissy if not everybody in the office doesn’t participate.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

sad thing is IF they'd said $5, you'd have bought 1 or 2 on the way in and another 2 on the way out.....

Problem is the popcorn company takes $10. and leaves the TEAM with $5. ..... i would rather donate $10. straight to the TEAM for their cause.

I tell them I already got some from someone else sell the same thing. Learned to say no to my kids when they got spoiled after the divorce and thought they could get daddy to buy them everything mommy couldn't.

I agree with Lars. what do the kids learn when the parents sell their school or other reason they are selling something! I told the people at my workplace that the kids have come in with the items and sell them to me! I didn't buy anything from the parents, I didn't care if they got mad or not! it took awhile, but soon there were kids coming in and doing their selling spiel. one kid came in, but didn't know anything about his product, he kept looking at his dad for the info. I didn't buy from him, but told him he needed to know about what he's trying to sell. one little girl came in and boy....did she know her stuff...she made a great sale that day!

I will give them a donation directly to what they are raising money for, but I am not supporting these companies that are having the kids sell their overpriced stuff for them. Got a 12 year old cousin that sets up a roadside stand on home football game days and sells boiled peanuts to raise money to help pay for his own kidney transplant. That is one I will NOT say no to.

I am with Steve and Hubert... give directly to the kids, forget the product. That way I can control how much I am donating.

Yep.  I would have handed over a $5.00 or $10.  Depends on the need.  Boy/Girl Scouts I support a bit more than someone trying to fund a bus trip across the State for some school project.....something like that the parents should cover.

Pat, I call that vitamin N, (NO). A lot of people these days did not get their daily requirement of Vitamin N while growing up and it shows.
