On the AC  170-175 tractor seats. Which other model seats with tube frame and armrest  interchanged? Which models used the same seat? Thanks, Tracy

I'd assume if yours is a 1972 model, it would be the same as a 200-185 and 180 of the same 1972 year build.

My 175D is a 78 model I think. Pump in front, newer style front axle. My 170 gas is newer too, it has a seat with no arm rest, like on a D15. Thanks, Tracy

On the some of those tractors the metal pan seat was std and the deluxe seat was an option and the super deluxe was another option up from that.

That seat was discontinued (p/n 255667), I believe and replaced with one referred to as a "Marathon" brand seat (269927). Marathon still had similar fold-up armrests, but did away with the 1 inch vertical square posts which failed quite regularly. The old deluxe seat was still available on those model tractors, which had no armrests. This fold-up armrest seat would have replaced the white super deluxe seat, which had short armrests that didn't fold up. Last used in probably 1971 ish on late model 190XT's-210-220.  Early model 200's had the seat pictured, which would have been 1972.

Here is a post from another member about those type of seats.

Red Bank

If your 7040 was fitted with the "Marathon" Seat (AGCO Parts Book Website)........an exact match seat (frame/cushions/no arm rests) can be purchased from a Serco Loaders Dealer.  Milsco (Milwaukee Seat Co) supplied these seats to Allis Chalmers, but unfortunately Serco appears to be the only source today.  I purchased one for my 185, exact match to original, from our local Serco Dealer.  Very satisfied.  Unfortunately, they only sell the complete seat, not individual cushions etc

Hard to see, but this is the seat on my 185. I think this is the Serca seat. arm rests are rotted off

Here is the "Marathon Seat" on my 185

The tractor was delivered to our farm in May, 1975 with the original Milsco Marathon seat.  The exact replacement seat in the pic was supplied to Serco Loaders, Two Harbors, Minnesota, by Milsco, and is available thru their service/sales offices.

Leadoff, Seat looks good. Could you post some close up of the back of it and sides of it. That seat frame is different than the 170-175 seat frame and base. Thanks, Tracy

The AGCO Parts Book, 185 Tractor,  higher/later serial no, sheet metal, frame and seat, seat/linkage page shows the support system under the Marathon Seat.  The seat bolts right on top of part no 14 - 70269208

Good luck with your project

Leadoff, that is a great looking seat. Great pics of it. I don't know if it would fit the 170-175 seat frame. It looks like the one on my 185. The 170-175 seat will flip up, but not sure that one would attach to the seat frame base. Thanks, Tracy

Here are some ideas/options to utilize the Marathon Seat for your consideration.......

BTW..I do not receive any benefit from the utilization of the Marathon Seat other than helping out a fellow Allis Chalmers owner

Allis Chalmers seemed to carry common seat design and parts from the D Series thru the 100 Series, and other later models.  I grabbed a couple of old seat frame parts from a 185 to check layout/dimensions, comparing to my D17 IV (should be same as your 170/175)

The upper pan type piece is what the Marathon Seat rests on, and is part no 70269208.  The other piece sitting on the 2x4 is Lower Arm part no 70268170.  Both parts seem to line up perfectly with the D17 parts, dimensions, holes, etc

The 185 Lever Arm is wider than the D17 Lever Arm, but should still fit the shock absorber, spring, and spring retainer at the bottom end of the assembly where it mates up with the main seat support base.  The spring retainer part 70225764 is common to the D17 and the 185.  The upper end of the Lever Arm connects to the upper pan piece.

Side view showing distances.  Note the rust stains on the pan showing where the Marathon Seat was attached - four Cap Bolts connection

Other side view from behind

Top view

Tilted to see D17 match

Top rear view.

You would lose the flip up/higher position with this arrangement.  As you know, the 185 has the capability to push the seat up/back on the rails.  The other consideration would be the space to the steering wheel might get tight as the Marathon Seat extends in from of the support pan.

Also, the 185 Lever Arm is a good upgrade from the D17 Arm (wider/more stable) for the minor additional cost from your used parts supplier

Hope this helps you find a solution for your project
