My I600 starts and runs good but gets hard to crank at times mostly when warm. I believe it’s advanced timing. What’s the correct procedure to get this right and know it’s right? |

| Scribe/chisel a mark on the flange of the distributer to the governor housing, so you KNOW where it is right now. Loosen the two clamp bolts. Rotate the distributer mark to the rear 1/8 of an inch and then see what that does. Rotating the dist clockwise (looking down from the top) retards the timing. The scribe mark you made will allow you to place it right back where it was if needed. |

Marked it and moved it 1/8”. That seemed to do the trick. I ran it a couple hours and it cranked right up revert time and ran perfect. I did not mess with it anymore than that. |

| If it cranks over well when it is cold but not when hot it could be a starter issue. Check the starter draw. Check all connections and clean them up. Just to eliminate that as a possible problem. |

I removed the starter and cleaned it when I bought this. I then replaced all battery cables. The timing was the issue. It cranks warm or cold now. |

on all the G149/160 gas engines - if the unit "kicks back" it is as you found advanced timing. The result is a broken nose on the starter. IF an engine has run well for a long time and all of a sudden has timing issues, check the advance weights for good springs and plate movement to advance timing. ------------- When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money.. |
