I have a D12 and a D10 both or ser. three. They are not range transmissions so I do not like plowing with them. Before I decide to give them away, I was wondering if a D15 diesel motor would bolt to a D10 bell housen? I do not see any major problem fitting the hood, gas tank, radiator or front end. I do not have a D15 to look at so that is why I am asking. I think if the bolt pattern is the same and there is room for the diesel fly wheel it could be done. I would not have a range transmission, but I would have a new toy. Your comments please.

Wood, I can't be of any help to you as far as putting the diesel engine in, but if you have to give the D 10 or 12 away, I could help you there!! On a serious note, D 10's and 12's should be pretty good property, and I would think you could very easily get enough money out of either on to buy a D 15 diesel. Just my 2 cents worth. Darrel

The flywheel needs to have splines in it for the PTO. The bell housing will match but the D15 diesel block is not structural it needs frame rails. There would be nothing to bolt the front end to. It would take more effort than worth. A perkins notor out of a D272 would fit but you would still have to the splines for the live PTO to deal with.

If you are looking for more power in the D10/D12, consider dropping a 160 CI engine from a D15 Series II into it. Basically same block and would look stock at 1st glance. Alternatively, the standard engine is the same as the D14, so you have many options available to dial up the HP on the stock engine.

Having reclaimed two D12's (1 barely running and the other non-running), I think Darrel's thoughts are sound. There were approx 5,000 of the D10/D12's (no figures available as too how many of each) made so they are not as common as the D14/D15s.
